Andersson, 21, was invited by the Rangers to attend their training camp as they gear up for the playoffs. However, he declined the invitation and is staying put in his home country of Sweden. The former seventh overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft requested a trade in mid-December and was loaned to HV71 of the SHL shortly after. It is also being reported that he will continue his career in Sweden until he is traded by the Rangers.
It has been an extremely disappointing career for Andersson to this point. In a total of 66 NHL games, he has posted just three goals and nine points. In 17 games with the Rangers this season, he posted just one assist. His AHL totals weren't very impressive either, as he notched just 5 points in 13 games.
After returning to Sweden however, his numbers were more encouraging as he scored seven goals and added five assists in 15 games. Andersson is still very young and is highly talented, so perhaps a trade is just what he needs to become the player many expected him to be.
