Auston Matthews cleared to play after testing positive for COVID-19
As first reported on Sunday by The Athletic's Joshua Kloke, Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas has stated that Star forward Auston Matthews has been cleared to play and will attend training camp with the team on Monday.
Matthews, who tested positive for COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in June, spent his time self-quarantining at his Arizona home following the positive test results.
Since the self-quarantine, the 22-year-old Leaf's star has been re-tested, receiving a clean bill of health and the green light to join his teammates at training camp.
He's expected to join the team on Monday, July 13th, as they prepare to battle the Colombia Blue Jackets in the first round of the NHL's Return to Play.
It's noteworthy that while quarantining at home during the pandemic, Matthews spent a substantial amount of time with his good friend, and Toronto's starting goaltender, Frederik Andersen. Despite being in close contact with Matthews, Andersen has received negative COVID-19 test results and will also be in attendance for training camp.
