According to hockey reporter Chris Peters, Kesler won't be behind the bench full-time, but he will working with the team and providing insight for these U18 players.
"Does not sound like this will be a full-time bench role, but Kesler will be working with the team. He played at the NTDP from 2000-02 and was part of both the first U18 World and World Junior Championship gold medal teams for USA," Peters said in a tweet on Tuesday evening.
The 37-year-old hasn't officially retired from the NHL, and is still under contract to the Anaheim Ducks until after the 2021-22 season. He hasn't been able to play a game since the 2018-19 season due to an injury to his right hip and the team placed him on LTIR for both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
As mentioned in Chris Peters' tweet, Kesler played at the USNTDP from 2000-2002. In 66 games, he had 39 points (12 G, 27 A) and 44 penalty minutes.
