Brandon University unhappy with Theo Fleury's vaccine passport conspiracy theory
Former NHLer Theo Fleury came under fire last week, following comments that he made on Twitter rallying against vaccine passports, claiming that the proposed system could put children at risk of being tracked by pedophiles, later deleting the controversial tweet.
On Wednesday, a report has surfaced that Brandon University, who granted Fleury an honorary doctorate in 2015 for the work he has done in the fight against child sexual abuse, has issued a statement over Fleury's recent comments on social media, condemning the act of spreading his wild conspiracy theory.
The statement reads:
"We call on Fleury to recognize that he is now a person in a position of authority, and to recognize that his actions as an authority put him in a place where he can cause harm to others. We hope he takes advantage of the resources at his disposal and seeks greater understanding of the science behind the pandemic and the essential public health role of vaccines."
The university also called Fleury's comments "a stain on his legacy", which could certainly undermine the work he has done to this point in the field.
Fleury, a victim of sexual abuse during his junior years, has yet to respond following to Brandon U's statement and a request for comment is pending from The Canadian Press.
