There is something about the lower tiers of professional hockey that brings out all kinds of wacky characters. One such character is professional enforcer Daniel Amesbury, who has bounced around various leagues throughout his career. Today, it was revealed that he signed a deal with the Fort Wayne Comets of the ECHL.
ECHL Team Signs Enforcer After Getting Banned From Other League
Amesbury had previously been with the Danbury Hat Tricks of the Federal Professional Hockey League, a low-level independent league. However, he was effectively banned from the league this season after he put up 72 penalty minutes in just 9 games. The league introduced a new rule mid-season limiting what enforcers can and cannot do. Amesbury had put up 298 penalty minutes last season with Danbury in just 29 games, indicating that his behavior is perhaps a bit over the top.
Oilers' ECHL affiliate are working to bring in FPHL legend and social media sensation Daniel «Diamond Hands» Amesbury, who has just been suspended indefinitely from the FPHL, due to a midseason rule change deeming his style of play dangerous to the league. He is an enforcer.
Luckily, Daniel's old team seems to be fully supportive of him as they posted a happy farewell post for him on X following the news that he had signed with Fort Wayne of the ECHL.
🚨CALL UP🚨
The baddest man in hockey is headed to the East Coast League! The Danbury Hat Tricks are proud to announce the call up of Daniel Amesbury to the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL.
Amesbury has topped 200 penalty minutes seven times in his career, but those are rookie numbers. The enforcer has also topped 300 penalty minutes twice and recorded a staggering 413 PIMS in just 37 games back in 2010-11 with the Abbotsford Pilots of the PIJHL.
