With Finland's top league on pause due to the pandemic, league officials are in the process of implementing some new protocols to protect players and personnel from the virus.

According to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, reports out of the Finnish Liiga have indicated the league's intent to mandate full face shields for all players as a means of reducing the risk of players transmitting the virus to one another during play.

Johnston added that, to his knowledge, such a mandate has not been a part of the NHL/NHLPA's return to play discussions, which seem to be nearing completion, though no vote to ratify the agreement has yet occurred.

I'm not certain what evidence there is too support a full visor reducing the risk of transmission, especially due to the fact that the virus can be transmitted through the air, but I don't claim to be an expert on the subject either.

A big motivating factor being Liiga's newest health and safety measure, according to Johnston, is that the players could avoid a mandatory quarantine period in the event of a positive test on the opposing team.
