Patrice Cormier, who has some games under his belt in the NHL, has been quietly plying his trade in Russia for the past few seasons, the last two with Kazan Ak-Bars. The 30-year-old has actually been pretty good in the scoring department in the KHL, putting up 76 point in 139 games in the league so far. On Wednesday, however, he got himself booted from a game after an awful hit on an opponent.

What made the hit on Mikhail Pashnin of Metallurg Magnitogorsk so awful wasn't just the fact that it was clearly a hit from behind, but that Cormier had plenty of time to second guess his decision and either soften the impact or forget about the hit completely. He did neither, running into Pashnin full steam from behind, with Pashnin going into the boards face first. Check it out:

The slow motion replay shows Cormier had Pashnin lined up from several feet away and delivered the hit despite the fact that his opponent had his back completely turned. For his efforts, Cormier would receive a five minute major and was tossed from the game. There's no word on whether the former New Jersey Devils 2nd round pick will receive a suspension for the hit. Pashnin did not sustain any serious injuries on the play.
