A scary incident in women's hockey as player gets stretchered from the ice
When playing hockey, or just about any sport for that matter, everyone is aware there is a high risk of injury. These situations can sometimes be nerve-wracking and very difficult to watch. We had another example of that earlier this week during a game in the Zhenskaya Hockey League, the women's professional league associated with the KHL in Russia
Dynamo-Neva player Polina Bolgareva was trying to close the gap a bit as her club was losing 4-1 to the Vanke Rays. She managed to get a shot off on a breakaway, which was stopped by the goalie. As she reaches back in an attempt to poke at the rebound, she loses her footing and goes head/shoulder-first into the end boards. The impact was brutal, and Bolgareva needed a stretcher to help get her off the ice.
Luckily, it appeared she regained consciousness before the stretcher got to her and and escorted her out of the rink. From what we can gather from Russian reports, she's going to be ok.
The 21-year-old Bolgareva is in her third season with Dynamo. So far this season, she has three goals and two assists in five games. Hopefully she will not have any lasting issues as a result of this incident.
