Long time Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook isn't getting any younger at 35 years of age, but the Richmond, BC native believes he has plenty of hockey left in him, despite undergoing three separate surgeries in 2019 and 2020.

Always accustomed to biting down on his mouthpiece and grinding through injuries, Seabrook finally admitted to himself in December 2019 that the time had come to begin addressing some of his larger injury issues in hopes of becoming healthy and extending his pro hockey career.

Despite having been heavily leaned on for a lot of years in Chicago, Seabrook saw himself healthy scratched during multiple games this season. With the coaching staff no longer recognizing Seabrook as a stabilizing presence on the back end, it left the blueliner with no other option but to address the issues in his body which have been preventing him from playing at his best.

In December, Seabrook underwent surgery to repair his right shoulder, followed by surgeries in January and February to repair each hip. As defenseman who spent most of his career playing with an edge and delivering big hits, there's no doubt that a shoulder injury that required surgery would impact his game. Likewise for his mobility when attempting to push through injuries to BOTH hips.

Despite a lengthy timeline for his return, and effectively being shut down for the season to recover, the COVID-19 pandemic putting a hold on the season has bought Seabrook some valuable rehab time, putting him in a better position to make his return when play resumes, hopefully in August.

He will have plenty of competition at training camp, making the decision incredibly difficult for head coach Jeremy Colliton, who will have 10 NHL-ready defenseman attending camp ahead of the projected August 1st return, but it's competition that could push Seabrook to be at his absolute best and elevate his game to the point of returning to the form that helped him hoist three Stanley Cups with the Hawks in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

Though Seabrook has not yet been cleared for contact, he has been skating and is expected to be cleared in time for training camp on July 13th.
