Young Stars tournament officially cancelled
Both the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers announced Thursday that their rookie tournament has been cancelled for this year.
This comes as no surprise, as many events have had to be cancelled all over the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament, which was to take place in Penticton, B.C., was scheduled in September. All four Western Canadian teams (Oilers, Canucks, Flames, Jets) were going to participate in the tournament.
This tournament used to be an annual event, but was diminished back in 2018 when both the Oilers and Flames declined to participate. In 2019, the event was cancelled all together, but was going to make a comeback this year. Of course, it is far too early to know, but it will be interesting to see whether or not the tournament happens in 2021.
