Tkachuk and Sens beginning to make progress on contract discussions
Just days after it was reported that Brady Tkachuk was growing increasingly frustrated with Ottawa Senators management due to not yet having a contract for the 2021-22 season in place, talks are now beginning to progress between the two sides.
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Senators are hoping to have a long-term deal in place with Tkachuk prior to training camp which is set to begin on September 22. The 21-year-old is one of, if not the main piece in what is a very promising young core for the Sens. In 56 games last season, he managed 17 goals and 36 points along with 69 penalty minutes, all three of which led the team.
With his offence continuing to make progress, paired with the intangibles he brings along with his very young age, he should receive a very lucrative contract from the Senators. He also has a strong chance to be named the team's next captain, something they have been without since the departure of Erik Karlsson after the 2017-18 season.
