Sad news out of Russia as Artem Chernov, a former draft pick of the Dallas Stars, has passed away. A family friend, Svetlana Koltsova, made the news public on her Instagram account, asking for financial assistance from anyone who was willing to give it.

“There was a great sorrow today. We have lost a close friend of our family, an athlete, a former "Yulaev" Artem Chernov," she wrote.

"My heart breaks with pain, but all we can do now is to pray."

Chernov, whose first name is sometimes listed as Artyom, was just 38 years old. His wife did not reveal the reason for his death. However, Sport-Express.ru is reporting that "heart problems" were the cause.

Throughout his playing career, Chernov played for several KHL teams, winning the Gagarin Cup with Dynamo Moscow in 2012. In 300 career games, he had 111 points (47 goals, 64 assists).

While Chernov was drafted by Dallas in the 5th round in 2000 (162nd overall) he never played a game in the NHL or anywhere in North America. He played his last games in the KHL in the 2016-17 season.
