According to Ottawa Senators reporter Bruce Garrioch, the NHL and NHLPA have had discussions on possibly expanding team rosters for the 2020-21 season.

Garrioch went on to mention he wouldn't be surprised to see teams carry 26 players rather than the usual 23. This would include an extra forward, defenceman, and a goalie. While this has yet to be confirmed, it would make sense given that calling players up from the AHL if an injury were to occur would take some time given the COVID-19 restrictions, particularly for players needing to cross the border. Of course, this would affect teams salary cap situations so the league would need to figure out a plan on that front if this were to happen.

This is just one of many different ideas the league will likely look to implement for the 2020-21 season. News broke on early Tuesday that the season will be returning, with a start date of January 13. There are still plenty of questions to be answered, but hockey fans can rejoice knowing that there will indeed be a season.
