KHL club shuts down training amid rash of COVID-19 positive tests

Spartak Moscow of the KHL has had to stop its training sessions due to COVID19 related problems. Today, the club published a statement on its website, which reads as follows:

"HC Spartak confirms that currently multiple players and members of the staff are undergoing the necessary treatment course due to positive results of their coronavirus tests. Three Spartak players had positive tests before the team gathered and were quarantined at their places of residence. On July 10th, players, coaches, and other staff directly involved with team operations were tested for COVID-19. The results showed two players and one staff member with positive results. They were immediately quarantined in separate hotel rooms and the team's medical staff assigned to monitor their condition. All others who tested negative were then allowed to proceed to full physical evaluation in preparation for training.

Before the next training session in Novogorsk, everyone was tested again using the IFA (Immunofluorescent assay) test. Six players and one staff member showed positive results and they were immediately quarantined. Their symptoms are negligible. The players who tested negative were allowed to continue with their training. After consulting with officials from the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor), the decision was made to stop all training and perform another round of testing on everyone at our training base in Novogorsk. The testing will be conducted today, using the PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) testing method, and a second round will be conducted on July 21st. We will make a decision on how to proceed based on the results of the tests."
