Toronto Maple Leafs superstar forward Auston Matthews confirmed to media today that he tested positive for COVID-19. This confirms rumors that were circulating around him testing positive about a month ago by Toronto Leafs reporter Steve Simmons.

Matthews, 22, has now fully recovered. He also said that he was ‘pretty much' asymptomatic, and as a result was able to continue training at home.

“It didn't really hinder my training,” Matthews said. “I was able to do stuff at home, obviously wasn't able to leave or anything. I'm pretty much asymptomatic.”

Matthews also spoke to Toronto media about how the team's first training camp practice went:

“Conditioning wise, not great. But it's just nice to be back here in Toronto with your teammates and doing what we all love. So far it's been pretty fun.”

Matthews will hope he can continue his hot regular season play into this year's Stanley Cup playoffs, which are set to begin in about two and a half weeks' time. The 2019-20 season was the best season of his career, with a career high 47 goals as well as a career high 80 points. He and his teammates will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the play-in five game series.
