Nikita Zaitsev loses appeal for custody of his two daughters
Once again, a Moscow court affirmed that Nikita Zaitsev's ex-wife, Margarita Gotovtseva is to receive custody of the couple's two daughters, Sofia and Veronica, ages 4 and 3 respectively. Zaitsev will be on the hook for 70,000 rubles per month (roughly $980 USD) for alimony.
The scandal around the divorce and the custody of the children has been a long, painful affair which seems to drag on and on with no actual end in sight. It is believed that the divorce was a major factor involved in Zaitsev asking to be traded out of Toronto to Ottawa.
Over the last few months, Zaitsev's family and his ex-wife have slung buckets of dirt at each other, in the news, on social media, and even on a talk show. While he lost the original hearing seeking to become the girls primary guardian, his ex-wife made numerous claims that Zaitsev's parents were still hiding the girls from her and refused to let them see her, allegations which Zaitsev and his parents countered by painting Margarita as an unfit wife and mother, going as far as to leak a video of Margarita engaging in a sexual liaison with an unknown man while her daughters were allegedly sleeping in the house.
Although Zaitsev and his lawyer plan to take their appeal to the next level of courts, the court's decision will at least force his parents to give the children up to Ms. Gotovtseva. According to her representative, once the court's decision is issued in written form, Zaitsev will have five days to surrender the children or face serious repercussions.
