The player projected to be the first overall pick in the next NHL entry draft has added another big accolade to a long list that he's already won. Alexis Lafreniere of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Rimouski Oceanic has been named the Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year for the 2019-20 season.

Lafreniere also won this award last year, making him just the second player to win it back-to-back. The first player to do that was fellow Oceanic captain Sidney Crosby in 2004 and 2005.

Lafreniere had 35 goals and 77 assists in just 52 games this season, leading the CHL with 2.15 points-per-game. The 18-year-old native of Saint-Eustache, Quebec had 30 multi-point games, including a seven-point performance on February 16th against the Quebec Remparts. He managed a goal and six assists.

From November of last year to January of this year, Lafreniere had a 14 game point streak. In between, he won gold with Team Canada at the 2020 World Junior Championship and was named tournament MVP.

Adam Beckman of the Western Hockey League's Spokane Chiefs and Marco Rossi of the Ontario Hockey League's Ottawa 67's were the other finalists for the CHL's Player of the Year
