Sean Couturier Could Miss Entire 2022-23 Season per Latest Report
Sean Couturier's season is at risk, according to a report from Anthony SanFilippo of CrossingBroad. Per SanFilippo, the Flyers' pivot has a herniated disc in his back that -- best case scenario -- costs him months; worst case, the whole 2022-23 season.
Insider Elliotte Friedman corroborated SanFilippo's report, saying the two sides are currently looking for a second opinion to determine the nature of the injury. Friedman also notes that this is indeed related to a previous ailment.
This is absolutely crushing for Flyers' fans, who desperately need a rebound season. Ask any Flyer fan, and they will admit that 'a healthy Sean Couturier' was a top priority heading into '22-23.
Now, the Flyers' center group consists of Kevin Hayes, Scott Laughton, Morgan Frost, and Patrick Brown, plus PTO signee Artem Anisimov and any AHLer they call up. This is devastating news for Philadelphia, and GM Chuck Fletcher had better act quickly if the Flyers are to be remotely competitive to start the season.
The silver lining here, is that Fletcher will receive over $7 million in long-term injured reserve relief, but can the Flyers' GM really be trusted or expected to replace him? Fletcher did field a bottom-five team that finished the season with virtually no cap space. Flyers' ownership cannot be happy with the state of their hockey club, so Fletcher cannot possibly be long for the job.
