Nolan Patrick Expected to Miss 2022-23 Season, Retirement Not Expected Just Yet

Nolan Patrick's professional career has been one unfortunate development after another, and the guy cannot seem to get his body right. He still suffers from concussion-related migraines/symptoms, and he battled a serious shoulder injury to boot. After learning he would start this season on LTIR, it now turns out he is expected to miss the entire 2022-23 season, and some are asking whether or not retirement is around the corner.

Patrick was the second-overall pick in 2017, and for most of the period leading up to the draft he was the highest rated prospect on the board. He scored 205 points in 163 games for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL, and there is undoubtedly a wealth of talent there. Tragically, he cannot get shake his haunted past of head injuries.

While some around the NHL are asking about Patrick's retirement, Elliotte Friedman said on 32 Thoughts that Patrick is under contract for now, so he has no plans of retiring yet. As long as he has a contract, he will try to play, is how Friedman framed the situation.

Still, the outlook is bleak, as he has not performed overly well when he has been healthy. Nevertheless, the Golden Knights will likely not have the center in the lineup this season, and there is a chance Patrick has played his final NHL game.
