Bo Horvat addresses concerns over pending UFA status next summer
Canucks captain Bo Horvat is entering the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season. Despite that, Horvat says he wants to remain a Vancouver Canuck.
Horvat went on to add that he won't let his contract status become a distraction as the season goes on and that he is focused on the task at hand.
The London (Ontario) native had a strong 2021-22 season, setting a new career-high in goals. In 70 games, Horvat put up 52 points (31 goals, 21 assists), 40 penalty minutes and was a plus-three.
It's unclear how much the salary cap will go up following the 2022-23 season and as it stands, the Canucks sit $2.75 million over. The biggest contract coming off the books next summer will be Michael Ferland at $3.5 million and Braden Holtby's buyout at $1.9 million. There's a good chance with those two coming off and the cap going up by an unspecified amount, Horvat should have no problem getting at least a $1.5 million dollar raise per year on that $5.5 million he's currently earning from the Canucks.
