"I'm excited for Brandin and his family," said Babcock in the news release. "He is prepared to be a highly successful coach. I believe he will elevate the Huskies play and profile even further. I look forward to seeing him continue down the path of what promises to be an incredible career."
After 17 seasons as an NHL bench boss, Babcock joined the University of Saskatchewan last season on a voluntary basis. His last gig in the NHL was with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was fired in November of 2019 after a six-game losing skid, which was followed by several allegations of Babcock creating toxic environments with teams he had coached. There's no word on whether the decision to step away from his latest position is because he's been hired elsewhere.
Babcock won a Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings in 2008. Besides Detroit and Toronto, he also coached the Anaheim Ducks.
