Another big blow for the Swedish World Junior team as it was announced on Monday that defenceman William Wallinder will miss the 2021 tournament after testing positive for COVID-19. Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reported the news Monday afternoon.

Wallinder, 18, joins fellow Swedish teammates, William Eklund, and Karl Henriksson, who will both miss the World Junior Championship after positive COVID-19 test results.

Players on the nine other participating nations have to produce three negative COVID-19 tests in order to travel to Canada. All 10 teams will head to Edmonton on Sunday, December 13th for a four-day quarantine and testing period, before entering the bubble on December 18th according to TSN insider, Bob McKenzie.

Wallinder was drafted in the second round, 32nd overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2020 NHL entry draft. He is currently playing for Modo in the Hockey Allsvenskan, Sweden's second highest division. In 13 games this season, Wallinder has put up 3 points (3 A), 6 penalty minutes, and is a +/-0.

He's played for Sweden on a few occasions, most recently at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. In 5 games, he had no points, no penalty minutes, and was a +5 as Sweden went on to win the bronze medal by defeating Finland.
