The list of names that are available include some high-caliber veteran coaches like Peter Laviolette, Mike Babcock and the first coach in Vegas Golden Knights franchise history, Gerard Gallant. The latter, as TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting, is very much in the mix.
Given the fact that the Kraken's inaugural season is not until 2021-22, Francis does have an abundance of time with which to perform his search, though we cannot rule out the possibility that a coach is named prior to the start of the 2020-21 season.
Gallant, with all of his expertise in coaching an expansion franchise, would seem like the ideal candidate, however, Francis may choose to hold off on making a decision until after the playoffs conclude. As Dreger points out, there may be some unexpected moves made in the off-season which may free up some quality candidates for the gig. Though, to be fair, it may not get much better than a guy responsible for coaching an expansion franchise all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals in their first season.
