Day, 22, split the 2019-20 season between the AHL and ECHL as part of the New York Rangers organization. In 36 games with the Maine Mariners of the ECHL, he had five goals and 20 points in 36 games. In another 16 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL, he put up one goal and three assists. The 2019-20 season was Day's second season as a pro.
The six-foot-three defenceman is best known for being granted OHL exceptional status to play in the league as a 15-year-old. Day is one of just five OHL players to be given exceptional status, with the others being John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, and most recently Shane Wright. Unfortunately for Day, he has been unable to live up to the early hype as he has struggled to find his game at the professional level.
Day was drafted by the Rangers in the third round (81st overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Though he still had one more year left on his contract with the Rangers, his contract was terminated on May 30 for reasons unknown.
