Bruins' Pastrnak, Kase deemed unfit to play

A bit of a setback in the Boston Bruins camp as both David Pastrnak and Ondrej Kase were absent from practice and deemed "unfit to play." Unfortunately, due to the NHL's rules regarding injuries at training camp, there is no word on whether one or both of those players will be out long-term or if they are facing just short-term issues.

Pastrnak, who tied for the league lead in goals this season, missed the first two days of practice this week after returning from the Czech Republic and being in quarantine. He did practice Wednesday, however and Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said at the time he was in good shape. Cassidy said Thursday the team "will forge ahead" without both players regardless of how long they might be out.

Kase was dealt to Boston from the Anaheim Ducks in advance of the 2020 trade deadline. The 24-year-old registered one assist in six games with the club. Pastrnak scored 47 times and added 48 assists during the regular season.

"Am I thinking ahead to being without [Pastrnak and Kase] in round-robin or the playoffs? No, that would be speculating," said Cassidy after Thursday's practice. "But for today and if I get word later today that the same thing is gonna happen tomorrow, then we start looking at other guys."

It's worth noting that Pastrnak was supposed to be involved in a Zoom call with reporters after Thursday's practice. That was cancelled by the team.
