Ryan Ellis does not believe this year's Stanley Cup winning team will have an asterisk
Nashville Predators defenceman Ryan Ellis does not believe that this year's Stanley Cup winning team will have an asterisk, despite it being a much different format than other years.
“If there's an asterisk next to winning this year's Stanley Cup, it's because it was harder than ever before, not easier,” said Ellis.
It is exciting for fans to hear that players around the league seem to not be taking the upcoming playoffs lightly, despite the fact that this season is much different than any other. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league was forced to be suspended on March 12, and then cancelled completely a few months later. There will be playoffs, which are set to begin in early August, but will include 24 teams rather than the usual 16-team format.
The 29-year-old defenceman will be healthy and ready to go in this year's postseason, despite being limited to just 49 games this season due to a concussion sustained in the Predators outdoor game against the Dallas Stars. When he was able to play, he was extremely productive, putting up eight goals and 30 assists. He and his teammates will take on the Arizona Coyotes in a five-game play-in series.
