On Monday, Traktor Chelyabinsk of the KHL announced they have signed forward Pontus Aberg to a one-year contract.

Aberg, 26, spent time with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies this season. In 55 games with the Marlies, he scored 20 goals and added 24 assists. In five games with the Leafs, he had one assist. With the 2020 NHL playoffs set to begin in August, it came as a bit of a surprise to see Aberg left off the Leafs roster, as teams are allowed to carry 30 players. Despite finishing second on the Marlies for points, the Leafs decided not to include him.

Aberg has had quite the journeyman career to this point, spending time with five different NHL clubs in the last two seasons. In total, he has played 132 career regular season NHL games, which were split between the Nashville Predators, Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, and of course the Leafs. In those 132 games, he posted 17 goals and 44 points. He has also appeared in 18 playoff games, where he has scored two goals and added three helpers.
