Hub cities offically announced
On Friday, the NHL announced the ratification of a new Collective Bargaining agreement. In that CBA, fans were finally given a date to look forward to, and upon declaring August 1st as the official date of returning to play, the league also announced the two hub cities in which players and officials will be contained.
As multiple reports and rumours have already indicated, it is Edmonton and Toronto who will be serving as hub cities. The 12 Western Conference teams will be playing out of Rogers Place in Edmonton, and the Eastern Conference teams will hit the ice at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
Each arena may host as many as three games per day, and players in the "bubble" will be forced to stay in Phase 4 Secure Zones, consisting of hotels, restaurants, practice facilities and the arenas where the games will be played. Teams will also have access to golf courses and other outdoor activities, as maintaining mental health became a key issue in deciding which cities would get to host the 2020 playoffs.
While Toronto and Edmonton will share the games in the early rounds, Edmonton will be hosting the Western Conference Final, the Eastern Conference Final as well as the Stanley Cup Final, tentatively scheduled to begin on the 22nd of September, and ending no later than October 4th.
Television broadcast schedules will be announced at a later date, but for now, NHL teams will be making their best efforts to get their game ready in 20 days.
