Last year, Colorado drafted Bowen Byram with their fourth overall pick - a player who has averaged over one point per game as a defenceman with the Vancouver Giants in the WHL. According to Steve Ewen, the Avalanche have asked Byram to report to training camp in Denver, to possibly participate in the late summer playoffs.
If Byram makes the team, Colorado may just have the most promising young defensive couple in the league. In the Canadian gold medal winning WJC team in January, Byram recorded two assists in seven games, finishing the WHL season with 52 points in 50 games.
Hearing that @WHLGiants D Bowen Byram is going to be a part of the @Avalanche roster for the NHL playoff return. Leaving this weekend for Colorado. The 19-year-old Byram has 48 goals and 149 points in 139 regular season and playoff games with Vancouver over the past two years.— Steve Ewen (@SteveEwen) June 30, 2020
