11-year NHL veteran and former top goalie prospect named to Canada's 2022 Spengler Cup roster

Canada is set to open their 2022 Spengler Cup scheudke on Monday and we still don't fully know who the roster will be comprised of. It's a bit odd that the full roster hasn't been released yet, but we do know two of the names that will wear the Maple Leaf in Davos.

11-year NHL veteran Cody Eakin and former Vancouver Canucks top goalie prospect Michael DiPietro are among the names that will be named to Canada's roster in the coming day.

Eakin, 31, signed with the SCL Tigers in Switzerland's National League after an unsuccessful PTO with the Calgary Flames this fall. In 15 games this season, the Winnipeg native has 11 points (four goals, seven assists), four penalty minutes and is a plus-one.

DiPietro, 23, was traded to the Boston Bruins in October after parts of four seasons in the Canucks organization. With Thatcher Demko earning the number one role with Vancouver, there wasn't a path to the NHL for DiPietro with the Canucks, so the trade gives him a fresh start. This season, the Windsor native has appeared in five game in the ECHL with the Maine Mariners. In those five games, he has a record of 4-1-0 with a 3.21 GAA and a .902 save percentage.

Canada will play their first game of the 2022 Spengler Cup on Boxing Day against Czech Extraliga club, HC Sparta Prague. Puck drop is set for 8:15 p.m. local/2:15 p.m. ET and can be viewed on TSN.
