Bruins to Host Chara this Fall, Honoring His Legendary Career
The Boston Bruins are hosting Zdeno Chara for the ceremonial puck drop before their match against the Minnesota Wild on October 22, per Bruins correspondent Shawn Hutcheon.
Zdeno Chara's recent retirement, for many, marks the end of an era; Chara was the only remaining active player in the NHL the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won a playoff series.
Apologies for the unprovoked blow, thus is the nature of low-hanging fruit.
"Chara, 45, led the Bruins to a postseason berth in 11 of his 14 seasons with the team, including a Stanley Cup Championship in 2010-11. He ranks sixth in franchise history in games played (1,023), and third in points by a defenseman (481) behind Hall of Famers Ray Bourque (1,506) and Bobby Orr (888)."
The Bruins are not expected to retire Chara's jersey at this ceremony, although, that distinction looks to be an inevitability. The match will be the Bruins' fourth home game of the season and is sure to feature a sellout crowd for Big Z's big night.
