Seth Jones says he has no qualms about long-term deal in Chicago despite rebuild
The Chicago Blackhawks are destined for a pretty lengthy rebuild. During the summer, they traded away young forwards Alex DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators and Kirby Dach to the Montreal Canadiens. They also lost Dominik Kubalik and Dylan Strome to free agency after not issuing either player a qualifying offer.
Even more change could be coming as following the 2022-23 season, as captain Jonathan Toews and star forward Patrick Kane are set to become unrestricted free agents.
Despite the trades and the rebuild, Blackhawks defenceman Seth Jones has no qualms with the long-term contract extension he signed last summer.
Jones, 27, was dealt to Chicago last summer from Columbus and on the same day, he inked an eight-year extension worth $76 million ($9.5 million AAV), which kicks in this season.
In his first year with Chicago, the Arlington (Texas) native reached 50+ points for the second time in his career. In 78 games, Jones tallied 51 points (five goals, 46 assists), 28 penalty minutes and was a minus-37.
