Jonathan Quick Addresses His Future, Retirement Plans

Jonathan Quick's legendary career is bound to conclude eventually, but how much is left in the tank of the 36-year old? Quick's contract expires, and he will be 37 once this season ends. The two-time Stanley Cup champion's age has hardly shown, save an injury here or there.

Statistically, however, Quick is coming off of a fine '21-22 campgaign. In 46 starts for Los Angeles, Quick posted a 2.59 GAA and .910 SV%, going 23-13-9.

Quick is set to begin his 16th season, but it shan't be his last. Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period reports that the veteran goalie intends to play beyond this year, likely in the form of one-year deals.

This is great news for Kings fans, as -- despite the second-ranked skater group -- the organization ranks 27th in goaltending prospects, per Hockey Prospecting. For now, Quick and partner Cal Petersen will hold down L.A.'s crease.

Quick's flexibility and fitness have always been strengths of his, but question marks surrounded his longevity, as there was a stretch of time when he looked prone to injury. In 2016-17, Quick only played 17 games, and in '20-21 only 22 matches.

If he can continue to provide quality goaltending and usher in the next era of Kings' goaltending, that would leave an overwhelming sense of ease within the organization. Nevertheless, perhaps the Kings' front office ought to be proactive in finding Quick's replacement.
