Patrick Kane says he was crushed by the Alex DeBrincat trade
While it does happen, the chances of a player spending their entire career with one NHL team are pretty slim in the modern era. That means friendships can be tough to build and maintain for teammates with so much movement. Patrik Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks told reporters Thursday that the team traded away his best friend over the summer.
Kane said the trade of Alex DeBrincat was "crushing" and "disappointing."
"He was my best friend. Definitely a guy I'll miss playing with," added Kane.
"Not only did I feel we had some great chemistry on the ice, but he was one of my best friends and closest teammates off the ice. He's going to develop into a great player, better than he already is."
That's something the Ottawa Senators, who snagged Debrincat in the offseason are certainly hoping for. Meanwhile, Kane has seen many teammates come and go since Chicago last won the Stanley Cup. It seems the DeBrincat trade had a real impact, though.
