Nikita Soshnikov returning to the NHL after three seasons in Russia
After spending the last three seasons in the KHL, former Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues forward Nikita Soshnikov is returning to the NHL.
On Wednesday, the New York Islanders announced that they've signed Soshnikov to a one-year, one-way contract for the 2022-23 season worth $750,000.
Soshnikov, 28, split last season between CSKA Moscow and Avangard Omsk where he put up 16 points (four goals, 12 assists), 14 penalty minutes and was a minus-three in 33 games.
Prior to returning to the KHL in 2019, Soshnikov spent parts of five seasons in the NHL with Toronto and St. Louis, recording 16 points in 87 games.
In addition to signing Soshnikov, the Islanders have inked UFA goaltender Cory Schneider and RFA defenceman Parker Wotherspoon to one-year deals. Financial details were not released.
With Wotherspoon now signed, five restricted free agents remain. Jason Robertson (Dallas), Ryan McLeod (Edmonton), Alex Formenton (Ottawa) Rasmus Sandin (Toronto), and Nic Hague (Vegas).
