Oilers Reveal Two Remaining Members of Inaugural Hall of Fame Induction Class
The Edmonton Oilers announced today the final two inductees to the organization's Hall of Fame's inaugural class:
The Oilers named Ryan Smyth and Lee Fogolin as the two remaining members, who have a combined 1,703 games played for the organization, both regular season and playoffs.
"Acquired by the Oilers from the Buffalo Sabres through the NHL Expansion Draft prior to their inaugural season in 1979, Fogolin played 586 regular season games with Edmonton, recording 36 goals and 124 assists along with an astounding plus/minus mark of +153. Anchoring the Oilers defence and seeing action in another 78 playoff games, he served as team captain for two seasons and enjoyed a pair of Stanley Cup wins in 1984 and 1985."
Smyth, on the other hand, was selected sixth-overall by the Oilers in 1994 and is one of Edmonton's most popular players. Over two separate stints, Smyth played 15 seasons in Edmonton, totaling 631 points for the franchise, and only fellow inductee Kevin Lowe has played more games in an Oilers' sweater.
Smyth and Fogolin join Al Hamilton, Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Grant Fuhr, Paul Coffey, Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson, Kevin Lowe, Glen Sather and Rod Phillips as the inaugural induction class for the Edmonton Oilers' Hall of Fame.
