Jordan Staal says he wants to remain with Carolina for as long as possible
Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal is about to enter his seventeenth season in the National Hockey League and his eleventh with Carolina. The 34-year-old has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
In an interview with NHL.com's Tom Gulitti, Staal said that he wants to remain with the Carolina Hurricanes for as long as possible.
"I want to be in the Hurricanes organization for as long as I can, and I'm sure whether it's an extension now or they re-up me at the end of the year or if they're done with me, it will happen," Staal said. "That's where I want to be."
When asked if discussions on an extension have begun, Staal said, "We've had a few conversations throughout the summer. I think we'll revisit it pretty soon here, and we'll see what they think and what they want to do."

Staal, a native of Thunder Bay (Ontario), joined the Carolina Hurricanes following a trade from Pittsburgh in June of 2012. Prior to the start of the 2019-20 season, the Hurricanes named Staal their seventh captain since moving to Raleigh from Hartford.
In 661 career games with the Hurricanes, Staal has 363 points (138 goals, 225 goals), 292 penalty minutes and is a plus-one.
