The Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today they have traded F Bobby Orr to the Gatineau Olympiques for two draft picks; a 5th round pick in 2023 and a 2nd round pick in 2024. Halifax GM Cam Russell needed the cap space, and their forward group is a little crowded. Meanwhile, Gatineau finished 5th in the regular season standings with a record of 39-15-11-3, so they are right near the top of the league.

After being swept in the second round by Shawinigan, the Olympiques add a proven point scorer whose name, at the very least has a championship pedigree. The Carolina Hurricanes' 5th round pick from 2021 scored 76 points in 104 games for the Mooseheads and could be just what Gatineau needs to push themselves over the hump.

So far this preseason, Gatineau is 2-1 with a +5 goal differential. With an already strong group, Gatineau will be a force this season, and Orr will slot in right into their top-six. The QMJHL regular season is set to begin on the first day of autumn, September 22 when Gatineau gets a chance to redeem themselves against Shawinigan after losing three straight to the Cataractes.
