Yakov Trenin not happy with arbitrator's decision in salary case
Yakov Trenin of the Nashville Predators is not happy with the decision made by a third-party arbitrator. Trenin is currently home in Russia, and told Sport24.ru that, as far as he's concerned, his side lost in arbitration.
"I am not satisfied with the decision, I believe that we have lost the case. Both we and the club had a comparison with one hockey player who was given $1.8 million for two years. Our stats are almost the same, but I have better defense and penalty killing, and power play. So it's strange that they gave me less than him. In general, I am disappointed, because I did not want to bring it to arbitration. But it turned out that it did and we lost the trial," said Trenin.
Trenin will make $1.7 million per season for the next two years, as per the arbitrator's decision. He wanted $2.4 million for one year. The club was offering $1.35 million for two years.
Trenin scored 17 goals and 24 points for the Preds in 80 games last season. It was a career year for the 25-year-old is every offensive category. As for what he plans to do next, Trenin said the arbitrator's decision doesn't change anything.
"Playing for Nashville. As soon as I get my visa, I'll go to America," said Trenin.
