Charge laid after stick-swinging incident leaves young player with awful injuries (photos)
It's taken a while, but a criminal charge has now been laid against a 19-year-old hockey player after a stick-swing to the face left one of his opponents with terrible facial injuries that required months of recovery. The incident happened in January of this year during a game in Sweden. 18-year-old Kid Andersson was sitting on the bench when he allegedly squirted water on an opponent who was on the ice. A stick to the face with a two-handed swing was the retaliation.
The perpetrator, who has never been named publicly in the media, was suspended from playing until December 31st, 2022. He is now facing a charge of aggravated assault and will appear in court next March. If convicted, he could spend up to six years in jail.
"Kid Andersson suffered extensive tooth damage, jaw fractures and bleeding wounds. The crime should be assessed as serious because the suspect showed particular recklessness and brutality by hitting Kid Andersson's head with a stick and because Kid Andersson was caused severe bodily harm."

Following the incident, Andersson told reporters he had no idea what happened at the time. He just knew he didn't feel well and threw up on the bench while blood gushed from his face.
