The Detroit Red Wings have acquired goaltender Eric Comrie from the Arizona coyotes in exchange for defenseman Vili Saarijarvi.

The need for a goaltender in Detroit was apparent following the injury to Jimmy Howard that necessitated a severely ill Jonathan Bernier to take over in net against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. The Wings were forced to dress practice goalie Josh Block to serve as Bernier's backup.

Comrie was drafted in the 2nd round (59th overall) by the Winnipeg Jets in 2013. The 24-year old has suited up in just 5 NHL contests, posting a 4.20 GAA and .870 save percentage. At one point, Comrie looked to be the heir-apparent in Winnipeg. He stands a good chance of getting some NHL experience this season in Detroit.

22-year-old Vili Saarijarvi was drafted in the 3rd round (73rd overall) in 2015. The young Fin is yet to experience NHL action.
