Bill Peters has been the main story line of the NHL this week, after a story broke earlier this week that he directed racial slurs to Akim Aliu years ago. This was followed by former Hurricane Michal Jordan, revealing a story via twitter that Peters had kicked Jordan in the back and punched a second player in the head during a game.
Current head coach Rod Brind'Amour confirmed earlier on Wednesday that Jordan's accounts of physical abuse were true, and he believed that GM Ron Francis and the Hurricanes management handled the situation "correctly" but didn't elaborate on whether Peters was held accountable.
Peter Karmanos, who was the owner of the Hurricanes at the time, said on Wednesday that he would have fired Peters "in a nanosecond" had Ron Francis made him aware of the physical-abuse allegations. Karmanos had only learned of the incidents this week through news reports.
Karmanos had the following comments,
" I'm pretty upset, and I have my calls into Ronnie as well. I think he's the person who's going to have to tell people what he did when he found out that the coach had done these things."
"Look, I'm probably as upset as anybody could be, I take pride in our organizations. I've always taken pride in playing the game the right way and all of that stuff. So I'm fed up."
Ron Francis, has yet to speak about what happened.
