The NHL's Department of Player Safety has ruled that Toronto forward Alexander Kerfoot will sit for the next two games for a hit on his former teammate Erik Johnson of Colorado Saturday night. Kerfoot was originally penalized for boarding on the play.
In making its ruling, DoPS stated it's important to note that Kerfoot is entirely in control of the play and could have avoided shoving Johnson into the boards. It says this is not a case of a player turning his back immediately prior to contact in a way that turns a legal hit into an illegal one. DoPS says the shove is delivered at an extremely dangerous distance from the boards while both players are travelling with speed.
This is Kerfoot's first suspension in his 179 NHL games. He has never been fined either. You can view the department's full ruling below.
