The Montreal Canadiens have called up Ryan Poehling from the Laval Rocket. The move will likely excite many Habs fans as they've been waiting for the centre to get another shot since his spectacular game at the end of last season where he scored a hat-trick in his NHL debut.
The move isn't all good news, though. Poehling is being called up to take the roster spot of Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who has been placed on injured reserve. Kotkaniemi had played 12 games this season before being forced to miss the last two after reportedly re-aggravating a groin injury. Kotkaniemi has a goal and two assists so far this season.
Poehling has played 13 games in the AHL this season, scoring three goals and totaling five points. The 20-year-old was the Habs first round draft pick (25th overall) in 2017.
