The Edmonton Oilers hosted the Washington Capitals on Thursday night, in hopes of getting back into the win column following two straight losses. While Washington was looking to build on to their 4- game win streak.

Edmonton found themselves down 3-1 entering the third period, but thanks to a strong performance by Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, were able to score two late goals to tie the game and send it to overtime, where Draisaitl buried the game winner off of a nice passing play with McDavid.

Alexander Ovechkin and Leon Draisaitl were the only two 50-goal scorers last season, so there was lots of hype about them going head to head for the first time in the 2019-2020 season on Thursday. The performance of these two all-stars definitely lived up to the hype, as Ovechkin put up 2 goals for the Capitals to extend his point streak to nine games, while Draisaitl recorded a goal an an assist in regulation, as well as scoring the overtime winner. This was Draisaitl's eighth OT winner of his career, which gives him the most OT goals in Oilers history.

Connor McDavid was able to pick up a goal and 2 assists in the Oilers' win after not registering a point in his last 3 games. His assist on Draisaitl's game winner was his 20th point of the season, which puts him just 1 point behind Capitals defenseman, John Carlson for the league lead.

Carlson recorded an assist tonight for his league leading 21st point of the season, and was also able to extend his point streak to nine games as well; which sets a record for the longest point streak by a Capitals defenseman.

Besides Draisaitl making team history, Mikko Koskinen becomes the first Edmonton goalie to start a season 5-0-0.
