Wild reportedly ''very close'' to locking up Kirill Kaprizov

The Minnesota Wild are reportedly very close to re-signing restricted free agent forward Kirill Kaprizov, according to Michael Russo of The Athletic. The deal is likely to be for five years and roughly $9 million per season.

"They're not close but they're very close. They've compromised on term, pretty much at 5 years. I think money is pretty close in $9M AAV range. Now they're working on a final agreement and structure, which is not gonna be easy," Russo said KFAN sports radio in Minnesota on Tuesday.

Last month there were rumours floating around that Kaprizov was going to return to Russia and play for CSKA Moscow again after the team offered him a one-year contract worth around $10 million USD. Kaprizov is seeking somewhere in the realm of a three-to-five-year deal with the Wild, but Minnesota general manager Bill Guerin wanted to lock up his young star long-term.

Kaprizov, 24, was nearly a point-per-game player in his first season with Minnesota. In 55 games, the Novokuznetsk, Russia native tallied 51 points (27 G, 24 A), 16 penalty minutes, and was a +10. Following the conclusion of the 2020-21 season, Kaprizov was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's best rookie.
