Earlier this offseason, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman suggested that the Isles may have a deal in place - perhaps even already signed - with UFA center Casey Cizikas. The deal, per Friedman, may be a long-term deal at around $2.5M per season.
On Tuesday, The Athletic's Arthur Staple revealed that he has heard similar rumours to what Friedman had been reporting, with one slightly different detail. He believes the AAV may be higher than $2.5M. Staple stated that anything under $3M is a plus for Lou Lamoriello and the Islanders, as Cizikas is a key player for them.
Cizikas, 30, scored a career-high 33 points in 73 games back in 2018-19. The Toronto, Ontario native finished last season with 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points in 56 games, adding 5 points in 19 postseason games for the Isles in their Conference Finals run - which was halted by the Stanley Cup Champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Cizikas already has a lot of hard miles on him. This is just my opinion, but as good as Cizikas has been for the Isles, I don't know if it's a good idea to lock him up throughout his 30's at an AAV near $3M, but I'm not an NHL GM, so what do I know?
