Rookie phenom Cale Makar did not attend the Colorado Avalanche's practice and subsequent scrimmage on Monday, the second practice is a row that he has missed. The 21-year-old blueliner left practice early on Saturday and did not attend at all on Sunday.

When asked if he was concerned that Makar might miss games with the round robin and qualifiers begin on August 1st, head coach Jared Bednar would not comment as per the NHL's new rules regarding injuries. He did say the team is looking at Mark Barberio, Bowen Byram, Kevin Connauton and Conor Timmins to fill Makar's spot for as long as he's out.

Makar is coming off an incredible rookie season in which he recorded 50 points in 57 games while averaging over 21 minutes per night. His efforts earned him a Calder Trophy nomination.

The Avalanche finished the regular season as the second seed in the West so will participate in a round robin with other top teams to determine seeding rather than competing in a best-of-five playoff series.
