Despite being a proven veteran and a three-time Stanley Cup winner, Marc-Andre Fleury insists he has no issue with competing for the starting goaltender position on the Vegas Golden Knights with Robin Lehner. The team has yet to announce who will be the starter for the upcoming round robin and playoffs beginning on August 1st. Fleury is fine with that.

"(Peter DeBoer) is the coach. Whatever he decides, I'm good with," Fleury told NHL.com's Danny Webster. "At the end of the day, all that matters is winning, that's why we're all here. Playoffs come and you have to be selfless and do what is right for the team. I just want to win, it doesn't matter how it is ... We'll see how it goes."

Fleury has been the number one backstopper for Vegas since the team's inaugural season in 2017-18. However, Lehner, who was acquired at the trade deadline from Chicago, has better numbers than Fleury this season and spent most of it with a struggling team.

"It's a great luxury for us," DeBoer said. "I'm not going to be afraid to play either. I don't know what that'll look like. Maybe it'll be one guy starting the majority, or we'll go back and forth. I'm going to keep an open mind on this because of the situation and the fact we have two great goalies."

Despite his three championships, Fleury is not unaccustomed to losing his starting position. He was replaced by Matt Murray as the Pittsburgh Penguins' starting goalie during the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs and they won the Stanley Cup. Fleury was then the backup to Murray during the playoffs when they won the Cup again in 2017.

Fleury missed three practices last week with the Golden Knights. Deboer said it had nothing to do with COVID-19.

"It was just a 35-year-old goalie that had been through five weeks (during voluntary workouts) and pushed himself really hard, like our whole group did, to get to camp," DeBoer said.
