Slovak Forward's WJC Dreams Crushed after Suffering Skate Laceration
Tough scene, as Slovak center Samuel Honzek has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023 World Junior Championship. In Wednesday's game against Team USA, Honzek suffered a ~10cm laceration on his leg from a player's skate, according to Slovak journalist Patrik Mitas.
Mitas reports: Samuel Honzek had a ten-centimeter cut on his left calf. The probable return is in about 4 to 6 weeks.
"Bad luck. I missed out on some good events. Not just the Junior Championship, but the Top Prospects Game. I'll focus on my recovery and the second part of the season," Honzek mentioned.

Honzek (2023 draft-eligible) is having a strong rookie season in the WHL, with 43 points in 31 games for the Vancouver Giants. It's a shame his World Junior experience was suddenly ended, but once he's back he ought to continue his strong play.
Another Slovak journalist, Tomá Prokop suggests that Slovakia will likely recall Martin Miiak of Nove Zamky to replace Honzek for the rest of the tournament. Slovakia next plays on Friday, December 30 against Latvia, who has proven to be a tough-out so far.
Honzek is eligible to play in next year's tournament, so perhaps he finds his way back in a year from now.
